Foundstone Role
Ron Nguyen is the Director of Consulting Services in the western and central US. He is the business and delivery executive responsible for all service delivery goals for the region. Specifically, Ron has performed and directed numerous web application security assessments, network penetration tests, firewall vulnerability assessments, security architecture redesigns, and has taught Ethical Hacking training classes.
Experience
Prior to joining Foundstone, Ron worked at a Big Six accounting firm as the director of its security center in Houston. He designed and developed a 2,000 square-foot facility staffed with twenty security experts charted with testing systems for security vulnerabilities and providing recommendations for remediation.
Ron also served as an information warfare officer with the US Air Force, where he was deployed as a consultant to Air Force and other US Department of Defense (DoD) locations worldwide to lead penetration and vulnerability assessments, to correct computer and network vulnerabilities, and to manage rapid response teams for the remediation of security incidents. His accomplishments include: researching, planning, and implementing the Air Force’s first Information Warfare Aggressor program, as well as planning and executing detailed Information Warfare attack campaigns during Air Force exercises. As part of his duties, Ron has attacked more than 60,000 DoD computers, representing virtually all types of common configurations. He has also developed and taught courses in security administration and incident response.
Notable Accomplishments
Ron is a frequent speaker on information security issues and topics for Global 1000 companies, various branches of federal government, and professional associations, such as InfraGard, the Information Systems and Audit Control Association (ISACA), and the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA). In April 2000, he was invited to testify at a US Senate Subcommittee hearing chaired by Senator Jon Kyl, Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Technology, Terrorism, and Government Information, where he provided a "live hacking" demonstration. He has been quoted in major newspapers and trade magazines such as USA Today, The Orange County Register, and ComputerWorld on security and virus issues. He has also been interviewed by local NPR Radio news affiliates.
